More April Birthdays

We celebrated birthdays with Juan Pablo Pinzon, Daniel Sandoval, and Miguel Frank. Classmates wrote encouraging notes in a book for each one.

Our room is almost surrounded with TITLES OF BOOKS that second graders read outside of school. I wonder when our ice cream party to celebrate READING will be held.....soon, I'm sure!

Celebrations!

We enjoyed the treats that Isabella's mom and Laura Moreno's mom brought to celebrate Mr. Wainman's birthday on April 5. We will celebrate birthdays of Lucas, Juan Pablo, Daniel Sandoval, and Miguel this month, too.

April is POETRY month, and ECA will celebrate on April 30. Everyone needs a poem in their pocket to read for prizes on that day. That Friday is also the Spelling Bee contest.

New Teacher

Mr. Putnam, a student teacher from Moody Bible Institute, has joined us. He will be practicing teaching for several weeks, beginning April 5 - 30. Mrs. Moyer will be helping him, and writing curriculum for 2nd grade. ECA is a GREAT place to LEARN for teachers AND students!

Seeing stars

At the planetarium, we first participated in a workshop where a teacher directed 2nd graders to make their own earth and moon model. After eating lunch and playing on several playgrounds in the National Park, we returned to travel through the stars, visiting planets on the way. It was an excellent day to say, "We know who created the universe!"

singing in German!

During ECA's International Program, second graders sang "The More We Get Together" in German! We learned some words in Danish from Mrs. Hammershoj, and greet each other in the mornings in Danish.

Fast fossils!

Over a few days, we made our own fossils, to show how rapidly they can form.

Caring for our Star...

Star is our pet hamster, who is becoming accustomed to "giants" handling her! Each week one group's job is to clean her cage on Monday, and feed her daily. She likes peels from vegetables, and gentle hands.
